Been away from the blog for a few days so here we go.
Today was just intended to be a very simple run. Ran to the north on the new trail in Pocatello that runs along side I-15. Then came back down the hill by Green Acres Elementary and then past Holt Arena and back up to the hospital. I really was eased off the gas pedal trying to take it easy today. I felt a little sore after yesterdays 7 miles.

Run from 2/20/200
Not many days when all you have are 2's and 0's... seriously not just the date but the temp as well. 22 degrees when I left my office today. I really don't mind running in the cold but its the end of February and its starting to get old.
Today was really just an easy recovery run. Effort was way lower... and Strava even told me that it was, almost like it was scolding me. I basically tried to run as flat a course as I could but when you start on top of a hill that doesn't always work. I ran over to ISU's campus and was out near the Stephen Performing Arts center. I was planning to do two miles out and then back but I found that getting off the pavement there is alot of mud. So I had to adjust but, so the course looks a little funky. All-in-All i accomplished my goals today which is important. My shoulder/back injury is feeling a bit better so maybe i'll think about maybe doing some weight work. Once thing I missed on this week is running drills. I was going to start since the snow is basically gone from the grassy areas's around the hospital but i'm just out of the habit. Goal for next week. Tomorrow is again and easy day to set up for my long run on Saturday.
Todays stats
pace - 8:32 m/mile
Ave heart rate - 151 bpm
ave cadence 170 spm
elevation - 279 ft
oh and I almost forgot. Strava told me I completed the February elevation challenge. I ran over 2000 meters (6500 ft) this month. yeah!

Run for 2/19/2020
Today was a 7 mile loop that has some downhill at the beginning with some pretty rough uphill in the middle. It was pretty cold today - it was 22 when I headed out from my office. There was a slight breeze blowing from the south that made it feel really cold when it hit you. The run went fairly well. I didn't go as fast as I thought on mile 1 but miles 2 and 3 made up for it. I hit my target on mile 4 but then mile 5 didn't go well. Not sure what happened but I try to be under 10 min/mile but I missed on it. Finished the run just fine.

run 2/18/2020
Today's runs was a easy run where i ran up on the east side of Pocatello, mostly on American road. I was really shocked as I looked at my watch at the one mile mark. It felt very comfortable to run at about an 8:12 pace. Miles 2-3 I really just took the chance to enjoy the scenery. The road was covered in melting snow so, luckily I didn't have to deal with slipping and sliding.
Coming down buckskin I was really trying to hold back but looked at my watch and saw my pace sub 7 min/mile which was fine because the effort was still easy. Of course, I didn't push things heading back up to the hospital where I finished today run.
I also should mention that the wife and I have started a new "diet" (she refuses to call it a diet). Today's meals are basically waffles for breakfast with some turkey sausage, a burrito for lunch with cheese and crackers for a morning snack and a protein bar for my afternoon snack.
Ave Pace: 8:24
Ave Heart rate: 149 bpm
Ave Cadence: 172 spm
elevation: 372 (93 per mile)

Sub 2 hour marathon
Recently Nike allowed some reporters to watch the test group make an attempt to run the sub 2 hour marathon pace for a half marathon (13.1 miles). 2 of the 3 subjects were able to run the half in under an hour. Per Runners World the course was basically on a track and there was a Tesla running in front of the pack at the desired pace with info displayed on the back of it. Speaking of the pack from what I read that had a group running around the test subjects to block wind.
Basically what i'm gathering is that this experiment by Nike is all about testing whether or not the human body can even do it. They are trying to eliminate the other variables (wind, elevation, etc). I feel that this will at some point change the way marathoners train and I expect to see world and specific marathon records fall in the next 5-10 years as elite coaches are able to learn the techniques Nike used. I know there is more to come but its a pretty excited project.
Tell me what your thoughts are on this whole thing...
